There’s a certain mystique around SEO.

Not enough people, even so-called experts, seem to truly understand it or to have direct and effective pathways for achieving SEO goals.

SEO lingers in the realm of the vague, where only a chosen few seem to wield the power- a power which they place many dollar signs in front of to share.

Furthermore, Squarespace SEO is cloaked in even more mystery and doubt. Take for instance the myths that perpetuate around the Web that “Squarespace is bad for SEO!” and “Wordpress is far superior to Squarespace for SEO.”

I get numerous emails each year from people stating they know that Squarespace will never have the SEO potential of Wordpress, but they would just hate to go through all the trouble of switching platforms, so can I please help them?!

Where did these myths originate? Wordpress’ CEO or Marketing team? Ha- I kid. But really, I do wonder.

I don’t have much of an issue getting Squarespace sites to Google Page 1. Sure, some sites take longer or require more work than others—a woodworker in Louisville is a lot easier than a photographer in NYC—but I have personally found Squarespace sites to perform wonderfully when it comes to search engine rankings.

The catch: You actually have to know what you’re doing. And that doesn’t just mean the parroted information you read in articles: “optimize your headings!” “shorten your URLs"!” “improve title tags!” “improve your site load speed!” “get lots of backlinks!”…. yada, yada. Sure those things are important, but they’re akin to a pinch of salt over a meal. They certainly aren’t the meat and potatoes.

Real Squarespace SEO Solutions (That Work)

A couple of weeks ago at Ruby Beach

In this article, I want to discuss the two solutions I offer for Squarespace SEO. One in which I do all the work for you, and the other where you learn how to do all of that work yourself!

Have Someone do it for you

My Fundamental Squarespace SEO (One-Time Service)

This is a one-time service where you hire me to perform SEO on your site.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The service usually takes one week or less from start to finish

  • No design changes are made to your site

  • Payment is due upfront on already existing websites

About my One-Time Squarespace SEO Service:

  1. We’ll begin by having you fill out a questionnaire that helps me understand your goals and the audience you want to attract

  2. To officially schedule the project requires a completed contract and invoice

  3. I begin the project by performing keyword research for your site, honing in on all of the keywords your target audience is typing into Google. The goal is to get your website to surface on Google Page 1 when they search for these certain keywords. This part of SEO—Keyword Research—is, in my opinion, the least understood part of SEO, but is absolutely foundational to everything else. No good SEO strategy is possible without solid keyword research.

  4. During keyword research, I’ll also generate at least 8 blog post topics for you. I’ll specify what your title and URL for each post needs to be. Blogging is crucial for SEO growth, so this is something you’ll need to be sure to address — create and publish those blog posts! You can do this in-house or hire a freelancer from a platform like Upwork, but get those blog posts out there!

  5. From here, I’ll begin implementing all of the keywords onto your site. I do this in backend fields and settings, metadata, URLs and other places- most of which are not visible or noticeable at all. As these keywords are added, your sitemap will update and this is what we want because Google bots speak in sitemaps ;)

  6. After your SEO is complete, I’ll leave you with a final document explaining to you the steps you need to take moving forward to ensure your SEO continues to grow. Things like blogging and how to make updates in an optimized way.

And the other Squarespace SEO solution I offer is:

My Squarespace SEO Expert Course

Personally, I think this course is the best thing anyone with a Squarespace website could invest in.

It demystifies Squarespace SEO, once and for all.

I teach you how to perform keyword research for your site, all of the myriad ways to incorporate those keywords onto your site, how to blog for SEO, everything!

The only downside to this course is that it requires some of your time. I’m not performing the service for you. But if you or someone on your team can eke out a little time here and there to complete the course, I think you’ll be ever so grateful you did.

This option is a long-term investment into the success of your website; the old “teach the boy to fish, rather than give him a fish.”

I created this article because I receive a lot of emails from folks wondering how I can help them with their Squarespace SEO. Here you have it- the two solutions I offer.

Remember this: You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on SEO. You can rank on Google Page 1 organically if you simply understand the recipe…

Let me know in the comments below, or email me, if you have any questions or need me to clarify anything; I’m always happy to help! And I really like to geek out on Squarespace SEO ;)

Thanks for stopping by and I’ll talk to you again soon~
