SEO (Search Engine Optimization) seems to have a certain mystique around it. How to get to Google Page 1 is a process many view as elusive and mysterious, so it’s no wonder that people decide to outsource it to a specialist.

As you know by now, that Google Page 1 real estate is scarce and everyone is biting at the bit to get their site name to surface there.

It makes sense, though— if you show up on Google Page 1 for your target keyword(s), then it’s very likely you’ll reach your target audience which translates to selling your product, booking that client, or just simply getting more traffic for ad revenue. Whatever your goal is.

Getting your website to appear on Google Page 1 for certain search terms can certainly translate to a growth in your business.

For those of us who haven’t quite cracked the code of SEO yet, it may seem like only those of questionable moral character get to Google Page 1. Surely they must be rich and spending a ton on advertising, or they know someone at Google, right?

Not quite.

I, for one, am not rich, and I’ve never spent a penny on Google Ads. Yet- the Squarespace websites I design tend to have a high likelihood of ranking on Google Page 1.

It’s a simple formula that, once mastered, makes perfect sense and becomes a piece of cake really.

So where should you begin, you might be wondering. Let me offer some helpful advice on what to do and what not to do when deciding on an SEO Specialist, or maybe even deciding to forfeit the SEO “experts” altogether…

Considerations when choosing a Squarespace SEO Specialist

It is alarmingly common for clients to contact me, stating that they’ve hired an SEO company, or companies, in the past, spent lots of money—often in the five figures—only to see very little, if any, result.

Research & Ask Questions

So my first bit of advice to you is to be very cautious before hiring an SEO specialist, whether it be an individual or an agency.

Do your research. Make sure you see proof of results. Ask for other clients they have worked with and the results they were able to achieve with those websites. How long did it take? Ask to see sites (with corresponding keywords) they have gotten to surface on Google Page 1.

Be careful not to get the wool pulled over your eyes by a well-designed company website or mere claims of SEO expertise. Dig in. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If they seem annoyed by your questions, that’s a red flag.

What will they be doing as part of the SEO service scope?

Is this a one-time service? Or will they be maintaining your website on an ongoing basis? What will that maintenance involve on a daily/weekly/monthly basis? And how will results be measured?

Get Clear about your goals before hiring an SEO specialist

Before you consult with an SEO Specialist, you need to be really sure about what it is you’re even trying to achieve with your website in the first place.

Do you want more sales? More traffic? To be able to monetize via ads or affiliate links? (Read: Monetize Your Squarespace Blog for Passive Income). Which audience, or audiences, are you specifically wanting to target? Which keywords do you specifically want to rank for on Google Page 1?

Be sure you know these things, because it isn’t the job of the SEO company to create your goals for you, it’s to assist you in achieving goals you’ve already set and made clear.

Squarespace SEO Solutions

As a Squarespace SEO Expert, I offer two solutions to help clients with obtaining Google Page 1 rankings:

See this product in the original post
  1. My Squarespace SEO Expert Course: This is a self-paced course that teaches exactly what I do to rank Squarespace websites high on search engines. This is a great course for those who maintain their own website, and it’s certainly the best long-term investment in my opinion. Not only does it cost less than my one-on-one service, but you really learn how to create and maintain your own SEO. My students have had great results with the course and you can read more about what people are saying about here. Because SEO is an ongoing, not just a one time, thing… I really do believe this is the best (smartest) route for most people.

  1. My Fundamental One-Time Squarespace SEO Service: This is essentially me performing everything for you that I teach in the above course. It’s a one-time service and I leave you with a document detailing all of the steps you need to take moving forward for ongoing SEO growth.

Both of these options work. It’s really just a matter of how much time you have on your hands, how much you’re interested in and willing to learn about SEO, and your budget.

At this time I don’t offer ongoing Squarespace SEO maintenance, though that is truly what is required of good stable SEO that sees continuous growth. For this reason, again- I think it’s best to learn SEO yourself. Like most things, once you finish my course and have a firm grasp on what needs to be done, then it’s only a matter of building habits, a routine, and schedule around your website maintenance.

What are your thoughts? Let me know any questions you have. I’m happy to de-mystify SEO for people if I can.

And please sign up for my Squarespace newsletter before you leave so you can receive regular posts like this to your inbox.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Talk to you again soon,
x- Tiffany
