Squarespace SEO: Brand New Niche Website Already Ranking on Google Page 1
About two months ago, we launched my husband’s brand new niche website (using the Squarespace platform, of course!).
It’s essentially a gear review site for outdoorsmen, but will likely morph into more in the years to come.
For now, though, the plan is just to build traffic by publishing in-depth review articles. And guess what? Less than two months from launching, my husband’s niche website that I designed for him is already ranking on Google Page 1, above lots of well-established brands.
This is pretty incredible considering he has virtually zero backlinks and no site authority being so new.
How did we manage to get his site to Google Page 1 so quickly, despite? Read on…
Getting my husband’s brand new niche website to Google Page 1 in under two months
We are slowly working to transition my husband to online income. We decided on a niche website to kickoff this journey, and started planning for it and working on it toward the end of 2019.
First came…
Industry Research
My husband explained to me the kind of site he’d like to go for— a gear and tool review site with a masculine appeal and rugged outdoorsy aesthetic (very fitting for him).
I began with industry research and he began designing his logo (seen above). Mind you, my husband is a very tactical hands-on kind of man and anything tech-related is alien to him, so the learning curve was huuuuge. A reminder that anyone can transition to online income if they’re motivated!
Generating SEO-Driven Blog Post Topics
As I dug into industry and keyword research, I created a list of blog post topics he would begin with. The goal was to have at least 10 completed posts before launching the site.
This is a crucial step, and I go into great detail about how exactly to perform keyword research for your brand and generate blog post topics to reach your target audience in my Squarespace SEO Expert Course.
While my husband worked on these blog posts, I designed a [simple] site for him, with solid built-in SEO. You can view it here.
Then, at the end of February 2020…
We Launched The Site
It only had 10 blog posts when we launched it, but we followed my SEO protocol by fully optimizing the site itself, and each blog post (including title, URL, images, and headings). My husband is a long-winded fellow which worked out great for writing lengthy and thorough reviews, which I also feel has helped his rankings significantly.
He posted one new review a week
While still working a full-time job, he devoted early mornings and weekends to make sure one new blog post got published each week.
Google doesn’t like stagnant websites- you want to keep things fresh and active.
By April, he had landed on Google Page 1!
Less than two months later, the first Rugged Man article landed on Google Page 1!
Mind you, these gear reviews are for popular search terms, which means they’re competitive. This is also a fairly saturated market he’s in, so we have been blown away at the rapidity in which he’s continued to outrank popular websites with far more backlinking and authority than his site.
A true testament to expert SEO skills!
Right now, as of May 2020, he has 23 published articles up on the site and at least 5 of them are ranking on Google Page 1, while several others are on Page 2 and 3, on their way!
For such a brand new site, this is pretty incredible!
You can have the same result on your Squarespace site, too! It’s just a matter of understanding the SEO process.
